Teatru Manoel is presenting an exciting and fun evening of music from Naples with the renowned Italian folk singer Lucilla Galeazzi on Wednesday 18th February 2015 at 8pm.
The vastness of the Neapolitan repertoire extends in time over five centuries. Its great variety of forms from instrumental music to vocal music, from serious opera to opera buffa, from villanelle to sacred music, and the important contribution by composers from around the world make the city of Naples “a temporal continent”, around which we find Roland de Lassus and Adrian Willaert with their neapolitan vilanelle, la Tarantella de Gaspar Sanz, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with the music of Pergolesi, Neapolitan Dance of Tchaïkovsky, Auber with his Muette de Portici, Rimsky-Korsakov, Strauss and Schoenberg struggling with Funiculì Funiculà, Liszt in his travels between Naples and Venice, and again Poulenc, Debussy, Thalberg, Cottrau and finally the stranger Gaetano Donizetti.
The idea of the concert is to rebuild a kind of musical geography of this Dionysian city through the music of these foreign composers who were able to look at Naples’ traditions with interest and geniality.
Lucilla Galeazzi is the only singer who could approach such a project. Since her debut with the great master Giovanna Marini she has developed a sensitivity as well as a repertoire that makes her the most valued singer on the international musical scene in this genre.
Tickets for the concert are €20 with discounts for the students and senior citizens. www.teatrumanoel.com.mt, bookings@teatrumanoel.com.mt or 2124 6389.
