Drama Outreach Project is holding its third annual fundraiser at Ir-Razzett L-Abjad, San Gwann, on Friday, March 6. Following on the success of the NGO’s previous events, the team is determined to once more put the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraiser’ with an event that includes great finger food and drinks, a performance by the Live Earth Band, and fab music to dance to courtesy of DJ Winston De Giorgio.

DO Project was formed two years ago with the aim of offering underprivileged children in developing countries the opportunity to learn English through music, dance, art and developmental drama with the Helen O’Grady Academy. The NGO’s first project was in Cambodia, a nation ravaged by a brutal war in the 1970s.

Today the victims of Cambodia’s tragic past are the children who gather in small packs begging for hand-outs amongst rushing traffic, or scavenging for recyclable bottles or cans at night in order to scratch a living. These are Cambodia’s street children; these are the children DO Project works with, and the NGO firmly believes that education is the key to lifting these children out of the squalor in the hope that they will become self-sufficient, productive individuals within their communities.

To this end, for the past two years, a team of accredited teachers and carers has travelled to Cambodia’s capital city, Phnom Penh, working closely with a number of voluntary organisations on the ground that assisted in ensuring the project was successful.

The team returns to Phnom Penh this August. The aim of this year’s fundraiser is to continue to finance DO Project’s activities that strive to offer the children a better life. Furthermore, the organisation is discussing other major projects with its Cambodian partners that will hopefully come to fruition within the next few months.

Tickets for this year’s fundraiser can be obtained against a donation of €35 each, either by calling Ivana Restall on 79372317 or by sending an email to dramaoutreachproject@gmail.com
