A Handbag at M Space

handbagA group of young people are rehearsing Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance Of Being Earnest”. It quickly becomes apparent that the task is as daunting as the inexperienced climber trying to climb Mount Everest. As challenges emerge, within Wilde’s ”Comedy Of Manners”, even greater challenges begin to confront the characters within Horowitz’s play. Gradually tensions mount and squabbles ensue. Each young person is taken to breaking point as six very different – and frighteningly similar – personalities become locked in conflict.

The dialogue is truthful, darkly funny and razor sharp.

Anthony Horowitz is an award-winning novelist, screenwriter and playwright. A HANDBAG is finely crafted and brilliantly observed. It is a play that has real depth, profound meaning and resonances which will touch the moral conscience of every audience member.

Andy Smith has been commissioned by Masquerade to direct this production and this sees Andy’s 15th year as a collaborator with the company. Andy has directed worldwide during the past 35 years and he has over fifty productions to his credit.
