Wirework expert Helaina Sharpley will, for the first time, be showcasing her work at the London Design Fair this season.
Two first-class designs paying homage to The Midland Grand Hotel have been created by UK artist, Helaina, which can be seen in the Craft Central area of the show in H7 on Stand 7.26 and 7.29.
Taking more than 100 hours to complete the hotel – which received a £150m restoration in 2011 – and a replica of one of the lampposts that resides outside it, she has created another collection of head-turning magic.
“I could look at The Midland Grand Hotel all day – it’s so beautiful and ornate,” said Helaina. “It was only a matter of time before I took on this stunning, gothic masterpiece. It has lots of fiddly, twiddly, charming features that were just calling out to be receive my wire treatment.
“Although it has been a challenging piece to make, with all its intricacies, I’m thrilled with the results,” Helaina added. “Lampposts are also a passion of mine and I love capturing the simple but elegant structure, which makes them a popular piece people request for their homes. ”
