Johann Agius is a very busy bee. He’s a podcast host, illustrator, content creator, charity volunteer and market organiser who left the corporate world three years ago to pursue life as a freelancer.
Since then, it’s been all-systems-go for the pop culture provocateur who last month, took on a new challenge and designed stagewear consisting of a giant pastizzi fascinator for a Drag act at Sliema’s Sirena.

When he’s not pushing homophobes’ buttons by flipping their slurs into T-shirt slogans, Johann Agius is collaborating with fellow creatives on new projects, co-coordinating Selfmade Market, updating his e-commerce website or hosting his podcast Pop Gerlijs.

His brand is bold, witty and glittery, which enticed me to purchase some holographic Miriana Conte stickers, which came lovingly packaged with a kissy-lips sticker. When I met the artist, I was inspired by his pastel-coloured get-up and tilted beret.
Agius is a natural talker, but also an epic listener, which works brilliantly on Pop Gerlijs, where – you guessed it – The top of the Maltese pop scene speak to Johann himself on air. Pop Gerlijs is the channel to tune into if you want to get the lowdown from all your fave Maltese songstresses.
In a world where time is prime, Agius’ podcast is a welcome break where one can get engrossed into the trials and tribulations from the lives of Malta and Gozo’s biggest pop stars. Johann didn’t start his podcast to talk, himself.

The man who was once a law student has single-handedly carved a niche for himself that is entirely modern. We’re waiting for the next collection of Johann Agius Creations with baited breath! Snap up Johann Agius Creations before they sell out this Saturday 11th April from his stall at Selfmade Market in La Vallette Square, Valletta.
