A Festive Red Lip – How To

When it comes to your makeup, nothing marks the season like a festive red lip!
Even if you go bare faced, wearing this colour alone will give you an instant lift.

Here is my guide to achieving the perfect crimson pout!

First and foremost, a smooth moisturised lip is half the battle when it comes to any lip look. Using some coconut oil and sugar, rub off any dry skin using your finger. If you have a lip scrub, that will work great but a homemade one is just as good. Follow up with a lip balm or lip primer to smooth out your lips and create a base for the lipstick, this will help the product to last longer and look better.

Lip liner is the next step and in my opinion one of the most important steps. You can’t just swipe on a red, so precision is key. Make sure your lip pencil matches the main colour and is sharp. Start from the outer corners and work your way in to the centre of the lip in short strokes, rounding on the cupids bow. For added longevity and colour pop, I like to smudge the liner in to my whole lip with my finger or a pencil brush. Don’t worry about any unevenness at this stage… pro tip to follow!

Now choose your favourite shade and start applying to your lip from the centre out. I like to you use a pressing motion, rather than a swipe because it distributes the colour more evenly.

Are you still with me? Now for those pro tips!

So by now you more or less have the look achieved but it may be looking a little uneven. My favourite thing to do now is to take a small angled brush with the tiniest amount of concealer and very carefully go around the edges of your lips correcting any mistakes and perfecting your desired shape… think of this step like and eraser on top of a pencil.
You can then go back in with your liner to top up any areas in need.

For extra “poutiness”,add your favourite lip gloss to the centre of your lip and wallah! You’re good to go! Just don’t forget to bring your products out with you as a classic red lip is definitely one that needs maintenance on a night out or if you are eating and drinking

My favourite brand for red lipstick is MAC and the below are my recommendations.

Ruby Woo

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
