The multi award-winning ABBA tribute band ABBA Revival will take to the stage in Malta at Gianpula on 9 November in aid of the Save Valletta’s Skyline appeal. All proceeds from the event will go towards the appeal – to carry out restoration on St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral in Valletta, and safeguard the breath-taking skyline that captures the hearts of all those who witness it. indulge.com.mt spoke to one of the organisers of the event – Kirsten Grenside.
“The Valletta Skyline is a vital component of the beauty that is Malta,” says Kirsten. “Here is a chance for the local community (and ABBA fans!) to help preserve Malta’s unique history and iconic Skyline.”
Kirsten goes on to explain the cause behind the event. “I joined a committee to Save Valletta’s Skyline this past February, thinking it would be a good way to meet new people, while also contributing to an important cause for Malta, the country that has been so good to my husband and I since we arrived two and a half years ago,” she says.
“I wanted to shake things up a bit and plan something that hadn’t been done to date. My husband said ‘let’s call it SOS, Save Our Skyline!’ Immediately we thought of ABBA as SOS is one of their most famous songs. However, there are no ABBA tribute bands in Malta. A few days later, over a bottle of wine with (co-organiser Jenny Fenton), I was telling her about this idea and what a shame we couldn’t do the ABBA thing. Unbeknownst to me, Jenny was quietly texting the manager of ABBA Revival as she had seen them in Libya in 2010. Within five minutes she got a response saying they would love to come back to Malta. From that moment on things started falling into place and what started as a small idea turned into a massive event we are all very proud of. Jenny agreed to join the team as did Anki Ellul & Vicky Heather and we were off running!”
Why should audiences attend this event, we ask Kerstin? She lists five very important reasons!
1. People will have a fantastic time with loads of dancing.
2. It will be a very professional, high energy show, involving multiple costume changes and lots of audience participation.
3. DJ Ian Lang will open and close the event with great music.
4. The Gianpula Main Room is an incredible venue that brings back lots of memories for so many people in Malta and we believe it is the perfect place to hold this event.
5. Bar prices are reasonable and Kinnie will be providing a Kinnie Kiss welcome drink to everyone.
“So, slap on the blue glitter eyeliner, pull on the bell-bottom jumpsuits and platform boots, and get ready for an unforgettable fun-filled night that promises not only a spectacular show but also helps preserve our Maltese Heritage,” she exclaims. “How’s that for the ultimate feel-good factor?”
We at indulge.com.mt can’t help but agree.
