Over the weekend of November 3rd and 4th, fifty artists in Sliema and St Julian’s are throwing open doors along The Trail, organised by Allura – Malta Open Art Studios.
This is a walking trail at a series of host venues and inviting you in, for free, to see what the participating artists make, and to hear about their inspiration, their materials and their crafts. At twenty places, from Portomaso Business Tower to Tigne Point Shopping Mall, visitors can choose as many or as few art spaces as they wish, in cafes, galleries and other intriguing spaces.
However young or old, it’s a chance to get creative with a paint brush or a potter’s wheel, or to pose for a picture taken by a professional portrait photographer. You can ask questions and find out more or just enjoy the art on show: there’ll be hundreds of 2D and 3D pieces inspired by the past and the present, people, places and passions, and all created here in Malta.
It is the first time this informal style of art event has taken place in Malta, and although it’s still early days, Allura has already won a Malta Innovation Award, and is short-listed for a Social Impact Award.
There’s something special about exploring behind the scenes, delving into an artist’s ideas and practice, and uncovering their methods and motives. The Trail will include digital and photographic art, sculpture, fine art, ceramic, wood and metalwork, virtual reality, film, video-game, fashion, costume and surface pattern design, printmaking, artisan crafts, designer handcrafted jewellery, illustration, graphic, architectural and product design, 3D printing and carving and various other visual art forms.
Artists will include professional and part-time creatives, students and school children from the Maltese and international communities. The Trail will offer a choice of hands-on and spectator experiences for residents and visitors alike, to photograph, discuss, try or buy.
Indulge.com.mt’s very own Artists’ Directory Volume I will also be on sale, at the Cavalieri Art Hotel; one of the 20 venues hosting the event.
