I am a 41-year-old British full time artist and mother whose studio is based in Gozo. For more insight, please visit www.annanightingaleart.com

How did you get started?
My mother is an artist so I was drawing from age 7. I never stopped since. Both my parents encouraged my talent through school, my art foundation and throughout my BA Hons degree in Fine Art Painting at Central Saint Martins in London.
Whose artist’s work are you most inspired by?
It is quite difficult to condense into a few, but if I was to say two artists who blow me away more than any other, it would have to be the American artist Whistler and Scottish contemporary artist Peter Doig.
Describe your work in less than 10 words.
I describe memories and journeys, study nature, relationships and love.
What genre do you consider your work to be?
Abstract expressionism.

Your favourite from among your own artworks?
One I am keeping for myself about a journey on a sail boat from Spain to Malta. My fear and my joy.
Where was your first exhibition held?
At the Citadel in Gozo, 24 years ago.
What are you working on at the moment?
My past and my future.
How long have you been painting?
Always have been.
Are you a morning person or do you come alive at night?
My most favourite time of the day is dusk. I do love the evening, but I do love my bed too.
How many coffees a day? Don’t embellish.
Only one, but it has to be super strong.

Sundays can be very productive for some and very unproductive for others. How do you spend yours?
Every day is the same for me but on Sundays, I never fail to go out and buy the English Sunday Times which I adore. I love Sundays for that.
Wine and cheese. Yes or no?
Tequila.
If you were given a million euros, what would you indulge yourself with?
I would give most of it to charities for the abused, underprivileged children and animals and then, perhaps I would buy my dream car, a 1980’s black Porsche 911.
Favourite place to holiday?
Ireland and England
