On April 12, 3 fresh bands will be playing at Marsa Sports Club:
Akalé Wubé is an utterly remarkable five piece band blending Ethiopian Funk and Jazz impeccably. Here’s what the Rolling Stone magazine had to say about this talented bunch – ‘this cocktail of vintage jazz-funk Ethiopian music is the UFO which will make us regret that the aliens have been discreet all this time’. The band has featured on various radio stations including BBC Radio 1, France Musique and FIP amongst many others. Mata has been recently nominated by Mondomix as one of the top 20 2012 albums in France. Their passion and research into the regeneration of Ethiopian grooves from the 60s and 70s will leave you mesmerised beyond doubt.
Lester Clayton have forged their own unique sound with the ingenious concoction of wonderful instruments, held together by very strong vocals and guitar from Lester and propped up brilliantly by his trio of musicians. Lester excites the senses with a gorgeous mix of acoustic folk and reggae. His reggae-infused brand of “Street Folk” with fiddle hooks and groove bass is fresh, poignant and extremely infectious. Tottenham born, Clayton has played over 600 gigs, and gained fans everywhere he has played, trawling through the summer festivals, as well as supporting Ed Sheeran, Just Jack and Pete Doherty.
Clemence Freschard’s distinct voice signature will leave a lasting imprint. Her soft vocal hues and tempo will enchant you forever. The rhythm sounds deceptively simple and masks the sophisticated undercoat of a star in the making. This is indie folk executed in cool calm confidence. Clemence’ bohemian delivery will have you hooked in no time.
