It’s back to school week for most and if you’re kiddo is starting a new year or starting nursery or kinder, my favourite staples are handy to have for healthy lunch ideas. Of course we all need a variety and try to mix up some lovely sandwiches and wraps or pastas and soups as well as plenty of fruit… but my below list are things I always have in the fridge or the drawer as great additions to whatever you are giving your child that day.
Raisins
I love the kiddylicious individually wrapped boxes of raisins, goes towards their 5 a day and a tasty treat to pick at.
Cereal bakes
Most schools have a limit to how much sugar can be in the likes of cereal bars and snacks and the kiddylicious fruity bakes are low in sugar, high in fibre and a great addition to your child’s lunch box.
Cheese
Babybel all the way! Quick, nutritious and the kids love tearing them apart.
Crackers
I almost always have a portion of mini crackers in Conor’s lunch to go with his cheese and some hummus too. He still loves picking at things so these are an ideal staple and I get the mini galleti from most supermarkets.
Cheerios
Another great quick “picky” snack to have on hand are whole grain cereals such as Cheerios. You know they’re getting healthy grains and sure to love them.
Yoghurt pouches
I always like to have some yoghurt pouches stocked up in case the regular yoghurts I buy run out as they are handy for back up.
As always, don’t stress about lunches, all you can do is your best!
