Ballad of the broken ego

Truth’s to be seen;
Not to be spoken…
We seem serene
When we are broken.

We search to live
A flawless perfection
Aspiring to give
Heaven a better reflection.

Overshadowed, we leap role after role

struggling under the weight of control;

Layers of us, carried around

Talking so much without making a sound.

Words in the mind, beliefs in our head
Simple are moments that have us misled;
Obsessive repeats transform to fixation,
Not knowing that death is the only salvation.

“For each man kills the thing he loves,
By each let this be heard,
Some do it with a bitter look,
Some with a flattering word;
The coward does it with a kiss,
The brave man with a sword!”

Wilde staggered truth into prose
Spacing blows the ego throws;
Content limits we accept;
Images we wish are kept…

We live a life of foggy dreams,
Ego demands and ego screams;
Our eyes are open, yet we can’t tell
This ego’s just an empty shell
Keeping us blind to boundless skies
Because the light’s covered by endless lies.
