Birgu Emporium ‘Find The Door’ Is The Artisan Concept Store Malta Needed!

If you’re anything like us here at Indulge, you may be sorely missing the unmatched experience of sifting through the wares of foreign flea markets in search of treasure. If one of your favourites part of going abroad is routing for that new perfect piece, whether it’s a painted bowl in Sicily or even a postcard from Paris to be framed on your return, then you’ll be pleased to hear about Find The Door in Birgu.

As the name implies, Find The Door is located down one of the miniature old city’s picture-perfect, winding alleyways, and to “find the door” is to be let in on one of Malta’s best-kept artisan secrets. Made up of multiple concessions of different vendors, Find The Door is an emporium of special items, from one-off pieces of clothing to tiny, shiny trinkets.

Fashion lovers can rejoice in the unique selection of handmade and carefully preserved pre-loved clothing from Indulge In Me, who’s rail is bursting with designs hot off the sewing machine by sewist and designer Monique Chambers. Her impeccable dress sense reflects seamlessly onto her current line of clothing, with its heavy Mediterranean-core aesthetic (that’s Instagram lingo for the hottest summer trend right now!). We’re talking juicy print skirts and crisp cotton palazzo pants, to replicate those Riviera fantasies this season.

Vintage features heavily at Find The Door, for both interiors-savvy shoppers and those wishing to add a little retro chic to their jewellery boxes. As a vintage earring obsessive myself, I was delighted to see rare examples dating all the way back to the 1950s. I swooned over a pair of oversized diamonte hoops, which will fit right into my Seventies disco queen collection, as well as a dangly boho pair Sharon Tate would be proud of.

When it comes to homeware, The Blind Hedgehog consignment will keep you on your toes. Specialising in mid-century pieces, you’ll be spoiled for choice if you fancy a bit of Mad Men era cool. If you’re a whizz in the kitchen, you’ll be bowled over by yet another stall’s gorgeous wooden serving boards and utensils – perfect for summertime entertaining at home. Find The Door’s ceramics offerings are unmatched, specialising in glazing techniques that give each piece a custom, unique edge.

With its traditional patterned Maltese tiles and original furnace dating back to its centuries-old beginnings as a bakery, Find The Door is a concept-store with plenty of character. The creative space is a haven for shoppers and artisans alike, with floorspace specifically dedicated to a program of workshops run by creative practitioners. This practical element to the space deems it multi-functional, and visitors who enter the door can pick up a skill as well as an eye-catching ring or object d’art for the home. Find The Door also doubles up as an events space for independent weekend pop-up shops, including regular appearances from one of our favourites – Lady Kitt Vintage!

Find The Door is the perfect destination for gift-shopping for those special friends deserving of something a little out of the ordinary. Having said that, it’s equally apt for treating yourself to something to put a spring in your step. Now to decide on my next pair of vintage earrings…

Find The Door is currently on the lookout for new artisan stalls. If you are a maker or craftsperson who would love to get your product out there with a stall in Birgu’s tourist metropolis, get in touch with Antje on WhatsApp +49 174 9985733 or by email on findthedoorbirgu@gmail.com!
