Christina Attard Desira is the chocolatier at Desirably Yours, a family-run business. Christina has a passion for baking – and eating! – and loves to come up with new products whenever she can so she is constantly on the lookout for new ideas!
When and how did you get started on your artisanal skills?
I graduated in Tourism Studies at the University of Malta, but I’ve always had a passion for baking, especially when it comes to chocolate. So, after graduating I decided to pursue other courses in England, all related to the art of making handmade chocolate. From then on, I started experimenting with new flavours and combinations of chocolate and try to incorporate the chocolates with as many Maltese products that I can.
Describe your work in 10 words or less.
Pleasant to look at and even more pleasant to eat!
Do you have a favourite from among your own creations? If so, why?
I would have to say my favourite is the Gianduia-filled Truffle which perfectly blends our premium milk chocolate with a rich irresistibly smooth hazelnut paste known as Gianduia.
What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment I’m working on new products for Mother’s Day and I’m already thinking of products for the Summer period.
If you weren’t an artisan, what would you be?
Most probably I would be working in the tourism industry or else in events management as I really do love to organise events for any occasion!
What is the epitome of happiness for you?
Satisfied customers are definitely the epitome, simply seeing a person’s face light up when they taste the chocolate, their positive and honest feedback, repeat orders, that makes it all worthwhile.
What do you love about Malta?
I simply love the sun and sea!
What do you hate about Malta?
Sometimes since it’s a small country certain resources are hard to find in my line of work and it can be more challenging.
Favourite colour and what it means to you?
Lilac! The colour calms me down for some reason.
What is your favourite indulgence?
Definitely chocolate – I must admit I’ve always been a chocolate lover.
