What do to with the Christmas aftermath!
It’s The week after Christmas, I hope everyone made the most of it and had a lovely day. I’m sure everyone has been filled with so much Christmas gift lists and ideas that they are just ready to relax and enjoy the few days off (spare a thought for retail workers… believe me I’ve been there! MANY times) anyway I digress as usual!
I thought I’d do a post for families that will most likely have an overwhelming amount of waste at the moment, from Santa’s big visit! And from the dinner!
Here are some ideas of what you could make useful if you are feeling Creative!
First and foremost, if you don’t plan on re-using, get rid of of all that excess packaging on the correct bin day for recycling.
Have fun reorganising your kids toys or play area. It’s a great time to donate old toys or find new uses for them to make room for the new. You can always use the gift boxes as storage too
Crafting
You will be surprised at the amount of things you can come up with to make use of used wrapping paper and cardboard! Store with your crafts.
I’m going to use tins of sweet and biscuit containers to store little bits that easily get lost, for example, the kinder toys or bits from playmobil sets.
Christmas decoration storage
I will definitely be doing this too. I am going to use all boxes and packaging to categorise and store my decorations and tree.
Food leftovers
Do you still have lots in the fridge?
There’s so many options here
Turkey and sweet corn soup Asian style
Bacon, stuffing and cranberry sandwiches (melt some Brie on top for good measure)
Last night we had a turkey and ham carbonara and it was a hit!
Memory boxes
I have been wanting to start a memory box, sort of collection for bigger occasions, I find I store everything in my phone and have bits of things I would consider important to hold on to, lying around everywhere. I’m going to try make a point of keeping this years Christmas memories together, like photos, Santa letters, colouring pages etc. If you want to get fancy, there’s a great app called LALALAB. They can create a box for you and print photos straight from your phone….. I’ve used it for photos before which were great! Just need to get around to the box thing!
Gifting
Like I’m sure a lot of you, I got hooked on the home edit on Netflix a few months ago and I noticed lots of household have a gifting section in their homes where they keep excess wrapping paper, gift bag over flow, extra gifts and so on.
I think it’s a great idea so this year I’ll start my little one off by using a large gift bag and store all my supplies, like cards, paper, bags and sellotape! I’m always scrambling for theses items, usually.
There are so many options to be clever with all that’s left over, if you feel like getting creative.
Wishing everyone a beautiful New Year xx
