Landscape/Seascape paintings in first solo exhibition
Debbie Bonello is relatively new to the local art scene.After having begun her career as an art tutor, and having participated in a number of collective exhibitions, she has of late been dedicating more and more of her time to painting on a daily basis. This has led to the setting up of an exhibition consisting of a collection of landscape paintings that Debbie Bonello produced in 2016 and 2017.
Titled ‘One’ because it is Debbie Bonello’s debut solo exhibition, the oil on canvas paintings in this collection are governed by the portrayal of atmosphere. This is reflective of Debbie Bonello’s enthusiasm for landscape painting but also of the time she spends outdoors, for Debbie paints in her studio but also en plein air. Painting outdoors is an aspect that she has dedicated time to and which has given a new impetus to her art work. Whatever the landscape, the subject is approached with steadfastness.
After the composition is carefully chosen, the scene is interpreted with loose brushwork in order to quickly capture the moment and the mood. The paintings in themselves are also a reflection of Debbie Bonello’s own mood and persona.
Debbie Bonello’s exhibition will be viewable at Palazzo de Piro in Mdina between 1 December 2017 and 29 January 2018.
