Easter Indulgence! 6 Of The Prettiest Figolli We’ve Seen This Year For Inspiration

Featured image by @thesweetbalance
This Easter will definitely be a little different, and you might well be celebrating with just your immediate family instead of the large decadent feasts we’re used to. Restaurants are also closed apart from delivery, which means some home cooking may be in order. One traditional activity is the preparation of Maltese figolli in time for Easter Sunday. These large, marzipan-filled almond cookies come in all sorts of cute shapes and decoration. They’re a firm family favourite- both for baking and for eating! We’ve scoured Instagram and Facebook for some of the most beautiful this year for a little artistic inspiration.

YAKOF DEBONO – Figolli Puffs

Yakof Debono is this year’s It Boy of food blogging, just you wait and see. As a home recipe developer, he doesn’t sell his creations, but they do make for fabulous inspiration until he’s on Bolt Food. His Instagram feed is sensational. Take these figolli puffs; they’re 2021’s answer to Spinx’s figazzi! Oh, and you should have seen his rose water and red velvet zeppoli…

Chocolate District’s offering is the Louis Vuitton handbag of figolli. Smart, sophisticated and er… square, the chocolatiers have coined the dark chocolate FIG-OLLA. You guessed it, it’s made with a red wine fig reduction. Expect no less from baked goods snapped by food and fashion photographer Brian Grech.

NVKD – Keto Almond Figolla

The most rustic of the lot, this zero sugar keto offering from healthy catering gurus NVKD is the barefoot, bohemian auntie of all figolli. They also do a delectable-looking vegan figolla. The way they’ve decorated this nature-inspired beauty perfects a zen like balance between sweet and savory. Gift one to a yoga-loving friend this Easter for inner calm.

MIRIA ONESTA – Biscotti di Pasqua Maltese

Mamma Mia, this renowned food blogger’s bringing mini figolli to the table all the way from Umbria, Italy! The traditional Maltese Easter treat is well-worthy of its international star status, and ci piace her choice of colour palette. The size of these pretty little things make them perfect for dropping off to the kids in the extended family this year.

Figolli but make it fashion. We imagine if Parisienne Influencers did figolli, they’d probably go for these nibble sized bites from oh-so-aesthetic sweet treat caters Late Night Baking. They’d pair perfectly with a double espresso macchiato (made with oat milk, naturally) on a balcony overlooking the Grand Harbour. Perfect for The ‘Gram on Easter Morning.

THE SWEET BALANCE- White Chocolate Figolli

The Sweet Balance is serving up some of our absolute faves at the moment, and their blog is chock-full of Easter baking recipes, including glorious Nutella-filled figolli! These domed, speckled figolli are inspired by our all time favourite Cadbury’s Easter chocolate. Some might argue it’s the Creme Egg but they’d be wrong. These Mini Egg-figolli mashups are the crossover we never knew we needed.
