I wake up before God. OK, before AirMalta airline pilots at least, and I generally wake up starving. I start my day with a couple of Red Bulls, a cup of tea and marmalade on toast. On weekends, it’s eggs and toast courtesy of my honey, but he, and you (if you are partial to start the day in the same way) will be chuffed to hear that a new eatery has opened and will be serving meals literally around the clock.
Waterbiscuit, which is right next door to the Intercontinental Malta in St Georges Bay has a breakfast menu. A proper breakfast menu. Egg white frittata for the skinnies, omlettes for the boys, a variety of pastries, juices to rival a specialist juice bar and of course coffees and teas. The eggs benedict choice alone almost takes a page, I had the mushroom one which had truffle in the Hollandaise, perfectly about-to-burst eggs, crisp toasts, tomatoes and leaves. Truffle is one of my favourite scents, one day I will start a food based showergel range. You read it here first. My plate didn’t look like this for long. I could not wait to dive in.I wish I had my video camera on to share the egg breaking and dribbling yolk. This was food poetry in motion.
The venue itself is pretty big, over two floors, with areas for those wishing to have discreet meetings, team meetings, people-watching tables upstairs and the ‘look at me section’ which is al fresco and at the front. Menus for through the day and night can be found here , in fact what I am going to do, is go from lunch to breakfast, not missing out on the cocktails of course!
