Triathlon is an Olympic sport that involves multiple stages of endurance, generally in three separate disciplines – swimming, cycling and running. The athletes compete for the fastest overall course completion time, including timed ‘transitions’ between the individual swim, cycle, and run components. Kellogg’s sponsored KMS Skolasport is offering young aspiring athletes the chance to train and hone their skills for the endurance required through its collaboration with the Malta Triathlon Youth Academy.
President of the Malta Triathlon Federation, Cyprian Dalli, said: “Two years ago, the Malta Triathlon Federation embarked on a new project with the European Triathlon Union and KMS to start off the first Youth Triathlon Academy in Malta. Since then we have grown from strength to strength. With each passing year, our KMS Skolasport classes are attracting young participants venturing for the first time in this exciting and rewarding discipline.”
Founded in 2013, the Malta Youth Triathlon Academy aims to provide structured training sessions by qualified coaches to young athletes, giving them appropriate training according to their age and level of skills. The KMS Skolasport Triathlon sessions are divided into two programmes: Grassroots (ages 6 to 13) and Performance (ages 10 to 15).
A Kellogg’s spokesperson said: “KMS Skolasport offers children quite a vast range of sports and venues to encourage them to become more active, enjoy practising a sport and, as a result, a healthier lifestyle. This is why Kellogg’s has been sponsoring and supporting KMS Skolasport for the past 15 consecutive years.”
Kunsill Malti għall-Isport will be launching its summer programme, ‘Summer on the Move’ in the coming days.
