
George Scicluna is an artist from Gozo. Although he likes to create paintings and sculptures he does not consider himself an artist.
How did you get started?
I don’t remember that I have started anything.
What genre do you consider your work to be?
ROCK
Describe your work in less than 10 words.
A little bit of everything like ROCK N’ROLL.
Where was your first exhibition held?
My first exhibition was held in the window of my mother’s house. In fact I still hold various exhibitions in the window of my own house.
How long have you been practising your art?
Since childhood.
Which is your favourite from among your own artworks?
De-constructing figures in space.
Whose artist’s work are you most inspired by?
Caravaggio, Cezanne, Picasso, Modigliani, Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach, Leon Kossoff.
If you weren’t an artist what would you be?
Probably somebody drinking coffee and eating pastizzi at Tapie’s Bar, St. Francis Square, Victoria.
What is the epitome of happiness for you?
Drinking a glass of red wine after a big struggle to pull out a painting.
What are you working on at the moment?
A painting of Piazza Navona in Rome.
Are you a morning person or do you come alive at night?
I used to like evenings and nights but nowadays I prefer early mornings.
How many coffees a day? Don’t embellish.
About 100.
Sundays can be very productive for some and very unproductive for others. How do you spend yours?
I HATE SUNDAYS!

Yes please!
If you were given a million euros, what would you indulge yourself with?
A very big room with its front facing the countryside and its back facing the sea-front.
Favourite place to holiday?
Italy and Scotland.
