There are few things sweeter than spending a summer night next to the glittering black seas of the Grand Harbour while a cool breeze wafts through your hair. For the tenth year running, Kinemastik Malta returns with its trademark annual Kinemstik Short Film Festival in two weeks’ time at the Herbert Ganado Gardens. The festival consists of a week full of open-air screenings that culminate in a two-night international film festival, running from July 20th up until the 27th.

The Kinemastik Short Film Festival is an initiative led by Slavko Vukanovic, the president of an NGO which has, since its inception, strived to cultivate an international atmosphere where filmmakers and film enthusiasts can meet and share their ideas about the changing world of cinema.

The local week-long tribute to the film medium is packed with screenings of locally-produced works as well as foreign ones and hosts international film makers and professionals during master classes and workshops for the local industry. For this year’s edition, as with any other, Kinemastik, supported by the Malta Arts Fund, has lined up a varied cultural programme of events. This mix of films and film people includes a screening of a film about the ballerina-turned-model-turned-prisoner-turned-statesman Drako Oho Zarhazar in “The Man Whose Mind Exploded”, a Sheffield Doc/Fest for documentary lovers and a discussion on the influences and future of Kinemastik in Malta and abroad. There will also be workshops and screenings of films for the little people crowd aged between 3 and 12 on the first day.

Tickets will be available soon, so stay tuned!
