hristian Völkers, CEO of Engel & Völkers AG, has joined forces with Thomas Winter, currently Germany’s most successful polo player, and Rackham Schröder, Managing Partner of E&V in Berlin, to found the Engel & Völkers + Land Rover Polo School. Together with the British off-road vehicle specialists Land Rover as the main partner, the Polo School is being aimed above all at encouraging and fostering upcoming new talent in the game of polo.
Professional polo courses in four locations around the world
The Engel & Völkers + Land Rover Polo School offers courses in Hamburg, Berlin, Argentina and Majorca. There are basic and intensive courses available, as well as courses for both beginners and advanced players. Furthermore, interested students can also book places on longer intensive courses in Argentina under the direction of Thomas Winter. Courses include a general introduction to polo, the chance to practice riding and hitting techniques, as well as development of game strategy. The Engel & Völkers + Land Rover Polo School provides all course participants with hire ponies, training manuals and equipment.
The focus of the Polo School is nurturing young talent
With its extensive range of courses, the Engel & Völkers + Land Rover Polo School is particularly hoping to support children and young people, offering young talent the opportunity to systematically learn the sport of polo and become proficient enough to compete in tournaments. “Nurturing talent is our main goal and a worthwhile investment in the future of polo. We will achieve this with qualified coaching staff, excellent training conditions and a sustainable training concept,” Mr. Völkers added.
Participants taught by experienced polo players
A coaching team of experienced polo players will train participants and lead tailor-made training sessions. Co-Founder Thomas Winter and Tim Ward are the trainers at the Engel & Völkers + Land Rover Polo School. Winter is a successful polo player with a handicap of +5, competing at national and international tournaments. In England in 2003, Winter gained the highest instructor rating in polo, the English Polo Association’s “HPA Qualified Coach Standard”. He is also a qualified referee (“Grade A”). Ward turned professional in 2005 (handicap +3) and trains famous polo players’ high goal ponies. Ward is also a qualified referee (“Grade C”).
Engel & Völkers gains well-known partner to promote the game of polo
With the British off-road vehicle brand Land Rover, Engel & Völkers has gained a reputable cooperation partner for the Polo School. Land Rover has long been involved with sporting and leisure activities. This includes polo. By supporting the Polo School, Land Rover is promoting increased participation in polo, particularly for emerging young talent. “We are very pleased about the successful cooperation between Land Rover, Engel & Völkers and the Polo School,” said Christian Uhrig, Head of Marketing Land Rover Deutschland. “At Land Rover we are also dedicated to making polo more popular and are sending our own Land Rover polo team to compete in a number of tournaments once again this year. The sport is being promoted by Land Rover throughout the whole of Germany, including by our dealers who are also avid polo fans and get involved in the sport with various activities on a local level. We look forward to a successful season!”
