Broadcast live from London’s Royal Opera House on Wednesday 26th November at 8:15pm is Gaetano Donizetti’s legendary opera, L’elisir d’amore. Since its premiere in Milan in 1832, Donizetti triumphed as one of the leading Italian opera composers of his day. French Director and costume designer Laurent Pelly beautifully transforms the acclaimed production, injecting tenderness, humour and southern sunshine. Showing exclusively at the Eden Cinemas, this unique opera combines a touching love story and hilarious comedy with beautiful music, including the much-loved aria ‘Una furtiva lagrima’. Adding to the vivaciousness of this opera is Italian conductor Daniel Rustioni, together with the chorus and orchestra of the Royal Opera House, as well the dazzling soprano Lucy Crowe, Vittorio Grigolo and Bryn Terfel.
L’elisir d’amore is a charming opera set in the sun-drenched Italian countryside where Adina, the most sophisticated woman in the village, is loved from afar by the handsome but shy Nemorino. Nemorino meets a worrying rival, the boastful Sergeant Belcore, until the love potion sold to him by the larger-than-life travelling quack; Dr Dulcamara gives him a powerful dose of courage – with both comic and touching results.
Donizetti cleverly brings his characters to life with a sparkling score that remains memorable to all. Enhancing this is the amplified sound, together with dimmed lighting in Eden Cinemas’ multipurpose theatre which provides a sense of authenticity, as though watching the opera from the Royal Opera House. Sure to be an unforgettable experience, the audience pays just a fraction of that charged overseas for theatre tickets.
Tickets for L’elisir d’amore are priced at €23 per adult and a mere €10 for children aged 16 and under. A complimentary glass of wine will also be offered, together with complimentary parking and a 25% discount at Waterbiscuit upon presentation of a ticket.
