Micellar water has been around for many many years and was mainly used by makeup artists as the ultimate quick fix cleanser. The past decade, with the help of beauty influencers has seen these products expand, not only does nearly every skin care brand carry a version but we see micellar wipes, shampoos and soaps now too!
So what is it? Why is it brilliant?
Micellar water is in essence, a cleansing solution just like water in look and feel which makes it popular among the masses. It is made up of mild ingredients specifically formulated to grab dirt and oil from the skin, but so gentle that it is rinse free. It removes the most stubborn of makeup, including waterproof, and very mild on the skin.
This makes it extremely popular with Makeup artists as it’s such a quick cleansing step and makes and amazing first cleanse if you like to double cleanse.
Personally I cannot be without it in my kit or my personal product Arsenal.
There are so many brands that carry it now but the ultimate OG is the bioderma range. In my opinion it just can’t be beaten and comes in handy packaging options and can be found in most pharmacies.
The bioderma range, originating in France, seen its popularity rise among makeup artists, particularly working back stage. It quickly gained a cult following and if you seen it in a makeup artists kit, you know they were in the know about what was good!
How to use,
It’s as easy as dampening a couple of Cotten pads and swiping gently all over the face, you will be amazed at how it removes makeup and cleanses the skin in one easy step.
Pro tips
As I mentioned, this is a products loved and used by makeup artists for decades and here are some pro tips as to why;
- amazing one step quick cleanse
- Soak a cotton bud to easily sharpen eye liner and lip liner
- Clean up any makeup mistakes quickly
- Travel friendly
- No need for water which makes it ideal in a makeup kit.
- excellent beach bag companion for freshen up up in between spf applications or straight after a swim. Sometime spf can build up a lot on the face so before reapplying, it’s easy to cleanse away build up.
Who’s is for?
Everyone, it’s so gentle, it works in the most sensitive skins so all skin types will benefit.
Does it stink
Most micellar waters are fragrance free, I have yet to come across an iffy one.
I would highly recommend the original bioderma line of micellar water but there are many great alternatives with the Garnier coming close as well as options from simple, Nivea, Clinique and even Lidl have an effective one.
