When it comes to grooming, many men consider it unnecessary, expensive, or time-consuming. However, the reality is that adding a few steps to your daily and weekly routines could completely revolutionise your look.
Here are 5 things I never skip when it comes to my grooming habits.
Nails & Hands: Let’s start with something most men tend to overlook: their nails. Now, I’m not here to tell you to get a manicure once a month, but your nails must be trimmed, filed, and cleaned regularly. Literally nothing makes you look less put together than having dirt under your nails. So invest in a manicure set and be sure to check them at least once a week. It’s honestly a five-minute job max.
Proper Skincare: The skin on your face is different to that on the rest of your body, and it’s certainly not hair, so I don’t want to see anyone washing their face using shower gel or, worse, shampoo. Buy yourself some good face wash and a moisturiser, and get yourself into the routine of washing and hydrating your face every morning and night. You’ll be so glad you did!
Beard & Stubble: I’m a big fan of both, but growing a beard or leaving a stubble shouldn’t mean that you give up on grooming them. Instead, trim or shave at least twice a week, making sure you clean around the neck, your jaw, and cheeks. For those with a beard, thoroughly washing your beard should be a given, especially as food and bacteria can easily live there. A beard oil will also make the hair softer.
Nose & Other Unwanted Hair: One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing hair poking out of someone’s nostril: no one needs to see that. So get a nose-hair trimmer and get rid of any that poke their head out… Remember, though, that you shouldn’t pluck or wax them, as this can easily cause an infection. Also, nose hair has a purpose—that of stopping any debris, bacteria, pollen, or other foreign bodies from entering the airways—so don’t overdo it. You should also check the tip of your nose and your ears to see if there are any hairs growing there. Pluck these out. It’s a simple thing that will make you look much neater.
Silicone Body Scrubber: If you’re just using your hands to shower, then you’re not really getting rid of all the dirt and dead skin cells. Buy a silicone body scrubber and be sure to use it everywhere, including your armpits, the soles of your feet, your groin, behind your ears, and where the sun don’t shine (especially if you’re a hairy guy!). This will get you cleaner and keep odours at bay.
