The fourth edition of the Maltese Islands Festival will take place from 4-8 March 2020 at Spazju Kreattiv and The Phoenicia Ballroom in Valletta, and applications are now open.
This internationally-accredited performing arts festival aimed at children and young people between the ages of 4 and 18 years takes the form of a competition, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of an audience and panel of international judges. The 2019 edition of the festival welcomed over 300 participants in both solo and group performances, and across tens of categories, and this next edition is anticipated to be more exciting than ever.
“Applications are now open for performers across the categories of dance, drama, music and singing,” says festival coordinator Antonella Mifsud. “Each category is split into a number of classes, so there is an opportunity for everyone, no matter what their performing specialty might be.”
Early bird applications, with a 15 per cent discount on the normal rate, are open until 16 December. There is also a special rate of €15 down from €35 for poetry performances by young children between the ages of 4 and 7 years old. The final closing date for applications is 13 January 2020, though late applications can be submitted until 20th January against an extra fee of €10.
“The Maltese Islands Festival is a member of the British and International Federation of Festivals. Like its international counterparts, the event gives children and young people an opportunity to share and foster their performing talents. All participants will be given expert feedback from judges, and awards will be granted to winners in each category.
“This five-day celebration of song, dance and drama is a chance for children of all ages to build confidence, learn, and grow as artists,” Ms Mifsud concludes.
