In the year 2000, Malta’s very first ‘Xampanja’ was launched. It took the name’Cassar de Malte’, and is a quality sparkling wine crafted in homage to Chev. Anthony Cassar, the founder of Marsovin, and his son Joseph.
This wine is a true benchmark for Maltese winemaking, raising the standard of what the country had traditionally contributed to both the local and global wine industry. Thirteen years on, Marsovin celebrates this great wine by producing a limited edition of 255 Magnum (1.5ltr) bottles, yet again being the first local winery to produce a traditional method sparkling wine in this size, moving in the steps of all the great Champagne houses in France.
Cassar de Malte owes its character and finesse to the selected Chardonnay grapes, harvested from Marsovin’s private estate in Wardija Valley, and to more than 12 months maturing on yeast lees in the bottle, as part of the intricate ‘methode traditionelle’ giving this wine its great complexity.
