When and how did you get started?
I used to draw/paint when I was 16. I then attended graphic design school in Valletta while working and loved every minute of it. Further to that I lived in the UK, and used to do watercolours whenever I could and pass on to friends. Then life took over and I could only sketch and escape while painting the occasional watercolour.
What genre do you consider your work to be?
To be absolutely honest, I find this question really difficult to answer. Closest is impressionistic, I plan my work and often it then takes a life of its own.
Describe your work in 10 words or less.
Textured oil paintings, in an impressionistic style which tend to have underlying meaning.
Where was your first exhibition held?
It was in 2016.
Do you have a favourite from among your own artworks? If so, why?
If pushed, it would be the first painting I made once I came back to painting everyday… of a dog.
What are you working on at the moment?
I am presently working towards my solo exhibition hidden in May, at Palazzo De Piro, and the painting I am working on is entitled male ego, I have actually done some research on the male perspective of this, besides reading articles. It is taking me a couple of months of thinking and putting together the work. The painting grows in my subconscious before it is put on canvas.
Which artist’s work are you most inspired by?
Lucienne Freud, and many many more.
If you weren’t an artist, what would you be?
I have been a teacher, and this has allowed me to teach in a creative manner and meet so many wonderful students.
What is the epitome of happiness for you?
Being with my loved ones.
What do you love about Malta?
I lived away, and could not live without the sea.
What do you hate about Malta?
The lack of space.
Favourite colour and what it means to you?
Purple, originally I thought it was because it was my birth stone. Now I think it is because it is the amalgamation of colours to create something beautiful. Just like life.
What is your favourite indulgence?
Whisky with friends…
