New Year’s Eve guests were thrilled by the lavish Great Gatsby-theme party at the Villa Corinthia, which included a decadent menu, glamorous 20s entertainment and stunning surprises.
Glorious 20s opulence enveloped the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa on 31 December, as the Villa Corinthia was transformed into the Great Gastby mansion for an unforgettable New Year’s Eve dinner-dance extravaganza.
With J Gatsby (played by actor Alan Montanaro) as the host for the evening, guests were treated to an experience based on the style of last year’s hit blockbuster The Great Gatsby. The event kicked-off with a welcome reception of Gatsby-themed canapés and cocktails, followed by an indulgent six-course meal using ingredients that would have been popular at the time. After dinner, the party kicked up a notch for a night of revelry with dancers from the fabulous Alison White company, live entertainment from swing band Dapper Franco and the Big Shots, and magical surprises every step of the way.
Another highlight of the evening came from the array of wonderful prizes on offer for those present. These included hotels stays at the Corinthia properties in Prague, Hungary and St Petersburg, and prizes were handed out for the Best Male in Costume, Best Female in Costume and Best 20s Dancer. Additionally, one lucky couple – Sean Swain and Justine Bugeja – were thrilled to win the top prize for Best Photo: two nights’ accommodation at the flagship Corinthia in London.
Following on from the event, actor Alan Montanaro, who is well-known for playing larger-than life characters on stage, was ecstatic with the outcome – as well as the feedback from all those present.
“To say that The Great Gatsby New Year’s Eve party at the Villa Corinthia was a success would be an understatement,” he says. “We were promised refined revelry, but I could never have imagined the opulence and the decadence, the authentic food, the free-flowing cocktails, the sparkling entertainment or the fantastic company.
“I also loved the fact that everybody made such a wonderful effort to dress the part on the night. I shared my table with Greta Garbo, Roxy Hart, Salvador Dali, Noel Coward and Rudolf Valentino, while Al Capone, Joan Crawford and Charles Chaplin were on the table next to us! The roaring 20s has become my favorite era. I don’t think anybody there will ever forget where they were at the start of 2014.”
Now, as the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa continues to solidify its reputation as one of the leading five-star hotels in Malta, its focus is also shifting toward extraordinary, creative and luxurious events. So, those present at this year’s Gatsby party, as well as all those who weren’t, can look forward to a future of truly unique and marvellous occasions held the birthplace of the Corinthia brand.
