Award-winning photographer Diana Iskander brings Frames of Hope to Malta this May, in an exhibition that blends visual storytelling with a powerful humanitarian purpose. Opening on Friday 29 May 2026 at 7pm at Christine X Art Gallery in Sliema, the show is presented in collaboration with Rotaract Club Malta and will raise funds for Tree House Nursery in Cairo.
Set against the intertwined histories of Sudan and Egypt, the exhibition moves beyond familiar narratives of crisis and distance. Instead, Iskander’s work focuses on the rhythm of everyday life, capturing moments of resilience, beauty and identity. These are images that challenge perception, offering a more nuanced view of places often defined by headlines rather than lived experience. Alongside this, visitors can also explore the Motherhood series by May Franzen.
At the heart of the initiative is Tree House Nursery in Cairo — a community-led space created by Sudanese families for Sudanese children. What began with just three children has grown into a nurturing environment for thirty, grounded in language, culture and a strong sense of belonging. The exhibition connects directly to this story, with many of the images reflecting the cultural roots the nursery works to preserve.
Frames of Hope is not about eliciting sympathy, but about encouraging a deeper kind of engagement. It invites viewers to look closely, to recognise shared humanity, and to support a project that protects identity and continuity for the next generation.
