School Bag Clear Out

With the kids off, it won’t be long before we receive lists again with what we need to get organised for the upcoming new school year and everything that goes along with it. It might seem early, but hear me out… if you get in top of everything now, you won’t have the thoughts hanging over your head for the summer and will feel great being ready to go so that when it is time to start school again, you haven’t got a million things to do!

The school bag is the best place to start, especially if your kids are older because you never know what you might find at the end of their bags. Dust, crumbs, old paper and even perishing food are among the most common things found, so shake it all out and get the Dettol wipes out!

Most bags can me machine washed so I suggest after a good wipe down, throwing it in on a cycle and it will come up new.

The contents of the bag will always change and depends on the year your child is in, but a common theme for all ages is to have some essentials such as anti-bac wipes, tissues and a hand sanitiser. Rather than loosely having them in the bag, I use a little see through travel pouch which is perfect to keep everything together and helps the teacher find everything in one place, especially for the younger kids.

The boxes!

If you’re in Malta, you will be familiar with the box system the kids used this year to store all their school needs and keep seperate as no sharing was allowed, due to covid. I suggest wiping these down and sorting through them as I’m sure there will be plenty of supplies left over to carry on to the next school year. Doing this now will give you an idea of what you need to repurchase once the list comes

Out again. I’m also going to use some of the extra supplies for summer crafts.

Uniforms

Again this all depends on the child, I recently bought summer uniforms and regular tracksuits new this year for example so I know they’ll carry through to the start of the year. I made sure to wash and press them and hang them ready to go. Tracksuits are also very roomy so chances are most kids will get lots of wear so I like to see exactly what I have and put them up ready to go and take note of anything I may need such as extra shirts and things that wear faster.

Buying socks, vests and shoes this time of year will also save the usual out of stock situations when the time rolls around.

Lunch boxes

I am still so happy with my yumbox and will definitely be re using it as it’s stayed in perfect condition. I’m on the hunt for some other food storage options, though, such as thermos coffee trainers for pasta and an extra lunch box for different storage options. Again I suggest shopping around now as come September there will be a mad dash and lots of things out of stock.
