I’m a ‘sleep when you’re dead’ kind of gal but sleepmaxxing, the wellness trend that’s taking rest to a whole new level, has piqued my interest. It’s not about spending more hours in bed, but about creating the perfect environment, routine and mindset to make every minute of sleep count.
At the heart of sleepmaxxing is the sleep space itself. The aim is to make the bedroom a sanctuary. That means comfortable bedding, blackout curtains, temperature control and, ideally, a space free from distractions like phones and laptops. Soft lighting—whether from dimmable lamps or warm-toned bulbs—helps to cue the body for rest.
A key part of sleepmaxxing is the wind-down routine. This might include reading, gentle stretching, listening to calming music or enjoying a caffeine-free herbal tea. The trend encourages setting aside at least 30 minutes to disengage from screens, allowing the mind to shift from active to restful.
It goes without saying that quality bedding and pillows are non-negotiable. Natural fabrics like cotton or linen or a bamboo mix, have breathability and smoothness, while a supportive mattress ensures the body rests properly. Even small touches—such as a silk pillowcase or a weighted blanket—can make a difference to both comfort and perceived sleep quality.
Avoid late-night caffeine and limit heavy evening meals. Perhaps incorporate aromatherapy, using lavender or chamomile scents? A few drops of essential oil on your pillow will help lull you to a relaxed state.
So as the evenings get darker earlier, start your new routine and rest up, ready for the festive season which is not so many sleeps away!
