Introduce yourself.
My name is Stephanie Borg. i’m a self-taught artist, surface pattern designer and graphic designer. I love colour and pattern, as well as the sun and other good things in life, but mostly, building memories with people dear to me.
How did you get started?
I’ve been drawing since I was a little girl but on a more professional level, since around 2001, when I had moved to Oman and had the luxury of more time on my hands. I finally could get all the colours out of my system! 🙂
Whose artist’s work are you most inspired by?
I love those artists who use bold strong colours and create sharp contrasts in their compositions. And if pattern is involved, then I’m even more fascinated! to mention some names that speak to me more than others, there’s Georgia O’Keeffe, Tamara de Lempicka and Klimt, as well as Caravaggio and 14th Century art.
Describe your work in less than 10 words.
A vibrant exploration of colour with attention to minute detail.
Your favourite from among your own artworks?/Where was your first exhibition held?
I can’t say I actually have a favourite. Each piece has a bit of me in it…it’s like having choose my favourite child! I first exhibited in a collective exhibition at the Majlis Gallery in Muscat, Oman, in 2002. I held my first solo in 2004 at Cleland & Souchet at Portomaso.
What are you working on at the moment?
I have just produced a new Art Card to add to my range of Malta Art Cards series and I have also finished a couple of original ink drawings. Now I need to focus on more original ink drawings for another solo expo and I am also working on a new product to add to my line of products inspired by old Maltese patterned tiles.
How long have you been painting?
for as long as I can remember! but prolifically for the last 15 years.
Are you a morning person or do you come alive at night?
Well…I hate waking up early for sure! I usually do around 12 hours straight and then I end up pretty tired coz I put a lot of energy when I focus.
How many coffees a day? Don’t embellish.
2 double espressos a day, in my own cups of course, and no sugar please!
Sundays can be very productive for some and very unproductive for others. How do you spend yours?
I don’t have any fixed routine, it all depends on my mood, my workload and the season.
Wine and cheese. Yes or no?
Wine yes, as long as it’s red. Cheese, no thanks.
If you were given a million euros, what would you indulge yourself with?
If I had to be totally selfish, I’d buy 2 or 3 places in different parts of the world and spend my time just painting, creating and traveling…But I know that i would first want to share with family and those less fortunate.
Favourite place to holiday?
Italy
