When I got the gift certificate for a trial flight from my boss I wasn’t sure if he was secretly planning to get rid of me or he genuinely thought I would enjoy the experience. Thankfully, my attention span doesn’t really last longer than 5 seconds so at the prospect of actually flying a plane all suspicions were erased.
While the entire logical part of my brain was screaming that I should wear a pair of flats, my Eastern-European roots told me it was more important to be pretty, hence I decided to go with a very cute pair of strappy high heels and a large smile. Arriving on site, after a couple of surprised looks from the security staff I met my pilot, a pretty red-haired lady by the name of Ruth.
The service is offered by Sky People Aviation Training Limited and they are authorised by The Malta Transport, Civil Aviation Directorate to conduct Pilot Training in accordance with JAA/EASA under the Registered Training Facility Number: M/RF6.
Anyhow, after a couple of quick explanations from Ruth, we boarded a small plane where she gave me a few instructions to get the plane off the runaway and into the air. I’m a licensed flight attendant and I never thought I’d see the day when I would fly a plane so the experience was more than special to me. I felt very safe because Ruth could have taken over at any point should I have done anything wrong.
The experience is unmatchable and unbeatable and as long as you don’t have a fear of heights, it’s something I highly recommend you do. There is nothing more freeing than just being up in the air and looking down over the beautiful Maltese islands surrounded by the crystal blue sea.
I’m thinking that if this was indeed my boss’ plan to rid the office of me, it wasn’t a very good plan at all. I shall let him know in the thank you note.
