“Deep in the deepest deep… Is a forest where they keep all your memories!”
In a very special part of a forest not too far from here, lives an Old Man and a little girl who guard all the memories of the world. It is a place where every single one of your memories has been securely kept and stored up till now. But a shocking problem has just come up. Memories are going missing, and at an alarmingly fast rate. The Memory keepers must catch the sneaky thief stealing the precious treasures, save every memory in the world and what’s more…? They only have Three Sunsets before every memory is lost…
“The Three Sunsets” is this year’s Ziguzajg production by the Teatru Manoel Youth Theatre (TMYT) commissioned for the Festival by Ziguzajg. TMYT is part of Teatru Manoel’s education programme Toi Toi which is directed by Rosetta Debattista. Following last year’s highly successful production, “CLUB”, TMYT joins the festival again this time taking younger audiences on a most astounding theatrical journey. Featuring an original story characterized by extraordinary scenery, fascinating puppetry, costumes, physical theatre and comedy, “The Three Sunsets” is a fantastic new show promising to captivate audiences of all ages. And… it’s a musical?
Luke Saydon, TMYT Member and Composer of “The Three Sunsets” commented on his experience; “Besides being a member of TMYT, I’ve had the privilege of joining the creative side of the team by composing the music for this production. All members of the company have been working for months and months under the invaluable direction of Denise Mulholland. While we were coming up with the concept and establishing what style of theatre would mostly appeal to our young audience, a musical seemed to be a most favourable option.
Composing original music, managing a live-band as well as giving 19 actors the role of musical theatre performers has proved to be no easy task. However it gives me incomparable satisfaction to see my work thriving at such an early stage in the rehearsal period. It has been an incredible most beneficial learning experience for me both as a musician and a performer. Being mentored by some of the best directors on the island as well as being involved in the creative process with other members of the company is an opportunity that does not come by very often and that I am most grateful for.”
This musical production which is choreographed by Sandra Mifsud and designed by Pierre Portelli will feature as part of the Ziguzajg Arts Festival for Children & Young People from 17th to 23rd November 2014. A forest of memories awaits to be discovered in the fascinating world of “The Three Sunsets”. Tickets for Żigużajg can be obtained from www.ziguzajg.org.
