After much bribery, date swapping and cajoling, a clothes swap, girlie lunch, Patches and a swim, we made it to MADC’s performance of Much Ado About Nothing at San Anton Gardens.
The cast had many favourites, some in roles that took them out of their stereotype, including the lead, played by Malcolm Galea. I’m not sure why they decided to wear 40’s clothing – but better than looking at ye olde world costumes I guess, especially as military uniforms adorned most of the male cast, most of the time.
Flame haired Faye Paris was Galea’s opposite number – and she sure did shine although many of her costumes were the wrong colours for her complexion. Her projection as strong as her character, lots of women in the audience (I bet) wanted to be like her! Erin Stuart Palmier and Joe Depasquale were the comical ‘police’, comical in their pairing, though Scott Palmier’s delivery was impressive.
Steffi Thake was one of my favourites, her expressive face enabled her dimwit character to be played perfectly. The whole cast seemed to enjoy themselves as much as the audience, though Galea, had the odd chuckle to himself throughout the play.
Last few tickets remaining for this evening and tomorrow. Take a sweater and mosquito spray….
