Valletta International Baroque Festival give cheque to Community Chest Fund

Dr. James Scerri Worley  Mr. Kenneth Zammit Tabona  The President  Dr Michael Grech  Mr Ray AttardHE Dr. George Abela, President of Malta has been presented with a cheque of €3509 for The Malta Community Chest Fund from the proceeds of the opening concert of the Valletta International Baroque Festival (VIBF) 2013. The concert which took place at the President’s Palace on Wednesday 9th January featured the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra with violinists Carmine Lauri and Emanuela Buta and was conducted by Michael Laus.

The presentation of the donation was made by Mr. Kenneth Zammit Tabona, Artistic Director of the VIBF, Dr. Michael Grech, Teatru Manoel Chairman, Mr. Ray Attard, Teatru Manoel CEO and Dr. James Scerri-Worley, Chairman of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

The first Valletta International Baroque Festival consisted of twenty events ranging from orchestral concerts, recitals, opera, dance and drama performed by both leading foreign and local artists in venues including the Manoel, the President’s Palace, St. John’s Co-Cathedral and Oratory, the Jesuits and All Saints churches. It was a resounding success in terms of the high quality of performances, audience attendance and response and above all in placing Malta on the international cultural map.

The programme of the 2014 festival taking place from 10th to 26th January is to be announced shortly.
