The new season’s collections will be in the stores in a few weeks, but there’s no need to wait that long to start off your AW14/15 wardrobe. Take a trip to the high street and get a head start in the Summer sales; look out for items that fit these profiles:
Architecture, soft or rigid, was an overarching theme for fall as an influential handful of designers such as Marni, Prouenza Schouler & Alexander Wang experimented with lines and volume. These designers crafted clothes which seemed to have been built on the body, the models’ minimal curves serving as little more than scaffolding.
Pale Pink – again….the easiest trend to follow from Spring to Winter as seen at Chanel
Mod – the early 1960s is a heavy influence. think Mary Quant, pick up A line minis, coloured leather and PVC, Peter Pan collars.
The ‘It’ jacket with a collar made of shearling or faux fur with a nipped waist as seen at Marc Jacobs & Givenchy
Power suit – peg or cigarette trousers are everywhere this fall. Team with a long blazer and trainers or flat, brightly coloured loafers.
Funnel collars and tailored hoods – these may not be in abundance, but do look out for them as some fashion forward brands did have these.
Fabric frenzy – buy all the textures you like and then do. Bit of DIY at home and change cuffs, sleeves, collars, back, fronts or inserts of tired clothing or other purchases. The more texture, colour and different fabrics, the better.
