I had such high hopes for Str-Eat on Strait Street in Valletta. The menu is varied enough for all, the decor über cool and it’s in Valletta – my favourite place ever! Oh, and they have a few whiskeys.
After a fantastic Evening at the Manoel, we decided to drop by for a drink and something to nibble. I was impressed at how busy the place was, the last time I went was, I believe it was their second day, and we just propped ourselves at the bar for a whistle wetter before a play and decided that it was worth another shot when we had more time.
So with no rush but a rumbling tummy, we went in, again, admiring the decorated tables and were escorted through to the dining area. It was incredibly loud, to the point that we actually moved, mid service, to the bar area so we could actually talk at a semi normal volume. The deafening noise in the dining as meant my order was misheard and I got the wrong dish. Frankly, even then I was so keen to leave, I had half the dish and half my wine before leaving the exact money (being English and not leaving a tip, even for a disastrous meal is quite wild) and marching up republic street and back to the car where I have a stash of junk food the over loud music still ringing in my ears.
Sorry guys, teething problems I can overlook, but when a customer tells you it’s too loud, you should make at least the effort to turn it down. Now, you have turned me off.
