Xiaoyi studied under a variety of teachers, as well as the Chinese Military Arts Academy. He learnt a variety of artistic skills, including traditional Chinese drawing, oil painting, western-style sketching, and cartooning. He is also a talented wood sculptor. Xiaoyi is notably versatile moving from one medium and style to another.
Aside from his artistic skills, Xiaoyi is also a superb chef, specialising in both sushi and related Japanese dishes, and traditional Chinese home-style cooking. He is also a skilled decorator.
Xiaoyi describes his philosophy of painting as ‘brush along the heart’. He is devoted to a peaceful life.
Among western painters, he is especially attracted to the works of Titian, Rembrandt, and Goya.
While Xiaoyi has painted in recent years largely as recreation, he is willing to consider commissioned paintings, especially portraits and paintings of pets and animals.
