I brought my son to ZiguZajg on Sunday, the show was “woodpecker” for ages 0-2
I didn’t really know what to expect, especially as Conor is 1 year and 9 months and can’t sit still for 5 minutes, especially if we are in new surroundings so I was also a bit nervous.
We went in to the theatre on old bakery street, Valletta with no shoes and were guided to a lovely Teepee like set up, where parents sat on pillows with their babies (it was mostly babies under a year)
Conor of course had to explore all the wooden instruments and hammocks and whatever he could get his hands on but once it started he was mesmerised by what was happening.
A group of performers proceeded to sing, dance, chant and play their instruments to impersonate the birds. I would describe it as sort of a tribal kind of dancing and singing. The babies were hooked at the new sounds and light effects as well as the instruments being played. The babies were also put in the hammocks and gently swayed. It lasted about 45 minutes and after the last segment, the children were given some time to explore the instruments.
Quite a different experience and unusual but lovely to watch and experience something away from the typical children’s performances. It was visually beautiful for the children and relaxing for the parents… well the ones with toddlers had a bit more running around to do but that’s to be expected!
If you have been thinking about checking out a show with your little one, I highly recommend. There are shows of all different genres and for different age groups on until the 24th of November and you can browse ziguzajg.org for tickets.
