Żurrieq shoppers receive eco-friendly cloth bags through HSBC Catch the Drop project

16 - HSBC Zurrieq IMG2Young students of the Żurrieq Primary St Benedict College helped raise environmental awareness through the distribution of eco-friendly cloth bags to shoppers in their locality. The cloth bags feature artworks with themes of environment and water-conservation as created by students. The novel idea by Żurrieq students won them funding from the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop campaign, and enabling them to bring their project to life.
The shopping bags were subsequently handed out to shoppers in the markets surrounding the school area. All students attending Żurrieq Primary received a cloth bag each for their families and more of these bags will also be used to support HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop activities elsewhere.

HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop is an educational water conservation campaign which was launched with an aim to raise the importance of water in a water-scarce country such as Malta. As well as carrying out school visits and involving the students – the programme aims to educate nearly 50,000 students by 2016 – the programme is encouraging individual students, schools and local councils to actively participate.
