Fairweather folk rejoice! We are well into Autumn in Malta and Gozo, and a change of weather is the perfect time to reboot your routine with some healthy habits which are beneficial for the body and soul. Here are five simple steps to a more positive mindset this season.
Take yourself to the beach
Newsflash! The beach doesn’t close down for the chillier months, in fact, Autumnal beach days can be just as enjoyable. Pack a picnic blanket or some beach towels and hit the sand or rocks with some snacks in tow. Be prepared for much chillier temperatures than we’ve recently experienced… a denim jacket and pashmina are always a good idea.
Pick your perfect mani/pedi shade
If you’re saving up for Christmas, some financial swaps may be in order. Self-care and beauty maintenance can be practiced at home, too! Even though thermal tights weather is just around the corner, taking care of your toes will mean your feet look pretty undressed at home. Start with a good scrub and file, before shaping the nail. Paint, gloss and go!
Add a little comfort
Homeware stores are filled with all sorts of pumpkin-themed goodies at the moment, with Halloween being just over two weeks away. If you’re in the mood for decorating, go all out! Purchasing a new set of patterned teatowels, a sofa throw, spiced candle or one cute cushion will also give you the dopamine boost you might be craving.
Clean out a cupboard
Retail therapy aside, few things are more satisfying than organising a problem-area in the home. Tidiness inspires clearer thinking, and you’re more likely to enjoy your time spent in the kitchen if it’s spick and span. Take the bull by the horns by tackling mess one corner at a time. This could even be a drawer or cupboard— you know the one I’m talking about! Remove everything onto the kitchen counter, spray and wipe the shelves down, and check all item labels for expiration dates before restocking.
Cook something comforting
While organising your pantry, you might have come across some tinned products that you’d forgotten about. Canned, drained green beans fry up lovely with some dried herbs and garlic, and butter beans make an excellent protein source in a tomato-rich stew. Tinned salmon is great for making salmon patties that can be coated in breadcrumbs and shallow-fried before baking. Swap mayo for light natural yoghurt with chopped capers and a squeeze of lemon for a low-fat alternative to tartare sauce. Delish.
